DETAILS
University Orchestra and University Singers will give a premiere performance of "Soul of Ra" by Barbara Harbach, professor of music at UMSL. They also will perform "A German Requiem" by Johannes Brahms. The performances will feature UMSL music faculty solos by soprano Stella Markou and baritone Stephen Morton.

James Richards, chair of the Department of Music at UMSL, said the performances will be presented for the people of Kirkwood during a difficult few years in the municipality.

"In light of recent tragic events, this concert will be presented to a city in need of healing," Richards said. "We want to honor the people who lost their lives in the devastating shooting earlier this year, as well as the officer killed in 2005 and the two young boys found and safely returned home last year."

Richards conducts University Orchestra, which is open to all UMSL students with orchestral performing experience. The group performs several concerts each year.

Jim Henry, associate professor of music at UMSL, conducts University Singers, an auditioned concert choir featuring 65 UMSL students. University Singers were the featured collegiate choral ensemble at the annual conference of the Missouri Music Educators Association in January.
