College of Optometry
The College of Optometry works to improve eye and health care by preparing the next generation of optometrist and vision researchers. Through degree programs, continuing education and community outreach opportunities, the college is enriching lives through vision.
The college offers a master’s and doctoral degree in vision science, as well as one of only 17 accredited doctor of optometry programs in North America. Nearly 50 percent of all practicing optometrists in Missouri are UM-St. Louis graduates. In addition to being a leader in education, the college also stresses community service. Students gain practical knowledge through work in one of four clinics and college partnerships that provide geriatric, pediatric and satellite services to people in need.
Generous donors allow the college to provide financial support to deserving students, upgrade its technology, and expand its programs to meet growing demands. In addition, a new building is now on the priority list for capital improvements within the University of Missouri system. This facility will better represent the quality of education offered by the college.
