Tips for searching the databases:
  • Use the truncation or wildcard symbol (*) to search variant word endings:
    • optometr* = optometric, optometrist, optometry

  • Combine different concepts using AND. Combine synonyms using OR:
glaucoma AND therapy close-angle OR narrow-angle

  • Limit your results by: Date (Publication Year) or Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals.

  • Don't limit your search to full-text articles—let ArticleLinker help you find the full text.
If an article is not available in print or electronic format at UMSL, request the article through InterLibrary Loan (ILL).

You can search for books in much the same way as you search for articles.

  • Begin at the UMSL Library Catalog.

  • Use the truncation or wildcard symbol (*) to search variant word endings:
    optometr* = optometric, optometrist, optometry

  • Combine different concepts using AND. Combine synonyms using OR:
contact lens* AND fit* optometr* OR opthalmolog*

  • When a book is unavailable from the UMSL Libraries or if you are not finding enough books, you can search the MOBIUS Union Catalog. When requesting items through MOBIUS, remember UMSL students are in the MERLIN cluster.
