What Should I Bring?

It's great to have you in the residence halls. We hope this Guide will assist you in your transition to your new "hall home".

Each residence hall room is thoroughly inventoried prior to your arrival. You will be able to review this inventory when you check in the halls. Any alterations, changes, and/or damages to the room found after the original inventory is signed may be billable to the resident's University account.

Bring Extra Long Twin Sheets
The beds are supplied in the rooms of all Residential Halls with an extra long twin mattress. Please bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and blankets.

How to Avoid a Sticky Situation
Certain Products work better than others on the residence hall room walls and surfaces. Only one line of adhesive and/or hooks are acceptable for use on surfaces in the residence halls. 3M manufactures a line of plastic hooks designed to minimize or eliminate wall damage. The product line is COMMAND. The hooks are reusable. Use of any other adhesive or hook product will likely result in a damage assessment.

The following items will likely leave some kind of damage.
Please do not use:

  • Nails
  • Tacks
  • Screws
  • Foam tape
  • Scotch tape
  • Electrical tape
  • Plastic hooks with adhesive backing
  • Anything that will put a hole or tear in a surface

Wallpaper, bordering, stencils, painting, and/or stickers or other additions are not permitted.

Tension rods (shower rods) are a safe way to add curtains.

"Glow in the dark" stickers usually do not remove easily or cleanly from the ceiling or walls of rooms. They typically leave tears in the ceiling tiles and/or paint chips, usually resulting in a damage assessment.

Residents cannot paint their rooms.

Don't Even Think About...

  • fridges

  • microwaves
  • incense
  • space heaters
  • hot plates
  • toaster ovens
  • extension cords (power strips are O.K.)

But, How About...???

Smoking?
Not in the buildings. Smokers quickly get aquainted outside on the patio.

Pets?
No pets except fish in tanks no larger than 5 gallons. That's ONLY fish. No mice, rats, snakes, lizards, hamsters, gerbils, birds, or other species that might be kept in such an enclosure.

Alcohol?
The University of Missouri - St. Louis campus does not permit alcohol anywhere in or on residential property. Violations of the alcohol and other drug policy may result in expulsion from the residential halls.

Cars?
Limited designated "resident only" parking is near each hall. All vehicles must display a valid University parking permit and a residential parking tag. The free campus shuttle serves all halls.
