EXTERNAL Funding Sources
Using the resources UMSL offers will help better determine what support exists in your area of interest. Conducting a fund search is the first of several steps in the process to identify funding for your project.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITY DATABASES
Use the following resources to search for funding opportunities. For assistance with the databases, contact Brenda Stutte (314-516-5897). For a custom database search, please fill out the Database Search Request Form and submit it to Tamara Wilgers (314-516-6884).

FUNDING ALERT SERVICES
A number of electronic services are available free to researchers who wish to automatically receive e-mail notices of funding opportunities, along with other important news in their research areas. For assistance with any of these services, please contact Brenda Stutte (314-516-5897).
- Grants.gov is a centralized clearing-house for federal grants. Four e-mail registration options are available: 1) selected notices based on solicitation number; 2) selected agencies and categories of funding activities; 3) selected interest and eligibility groups; and 4) all grant notices.

GIFT OR GRANT?
Grants must be processed through the Office of Research Administration. Gifts are processed through University Development. To help classify your funding/potential funding, please review “Is it a Gift or is it a Grant” (PDF download).
