Using the Utilization Analysis

Upon a position vacancy, departments are instructed to complete a Request to Fill a Staff Position.  Within this document is a section titled Equal Opportunity Utilization Info.  This information is obtained from the Utilization Analysis portion of the Affirmative Action Plan.  Instructions for completing the underutilization section are as follows:

  1. First determine the EEO Code, click on the UM Compensation website and find the job title or job code of the vacancy.  You may sort by job description or code.
  2. Click on the details icon next to the description, a pop-up box will appear.  Record the EEO Code, this is the EEO job group of the vacancy.
  3. Click on "division" and find the division in which the vacancy falls.
  4. Using the EEO Code (EEO SGP), determine if underutilization exists within your division based on the vacancy's FTE.
  5. Under "division" click on campus and follow the above steps to determine campus underutilization.

If the current workforce percentage is equal to or less than the availability percentage, underutilization exists and is indicated by a “yes’ in the column for that EEO subgroup.  If "no" is indicated underutilization does not exist.
