The UM-St. Louis Libraries are committed to providing individuals with disabilities reasonable access to materials, information, and services. The Libraries provide a variety of immediate and extended services for patrons with disabilities. The level of immediate service is contingent upon staff availability.
The Libraries are easily accessible by wheelchair through the front doors which are equipped with automatic door opening devices. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are located on the third level (entrance level) of the Thomas Jefferson Library. Elevators are also accessible from the entrance level. An extra wheelchair is available for use in the Thomas Jefferson and St. Louis Mercantile Libraries.
Immediate services for patrons with disabilities may include:
• Retrieving library materials for library patrons who are unable to access the collection and checking out library materials. Advance notice is appreciated for more extensive help
• Assistance with photocopying a reasonable number of pages
• Reference assistance with the library online catalog and other electronic databases
• Use of the Table -Top Video Magnifier (CCTV) that enlarges print material
• A wheel chair accessible public access workstation is available for priority use
• The Library Research Commons offers authorized users a workstation with adaptive software that includes: textHELP, JAWS, MAGIc, NoKeys, and ToggleMOUSE
• Assistance filling out Interlibrary Loan requests forms is available upon request at the Interlibrary Loan Office
• MOBIUS/MERLIN - Assistance in completing requests to borrow materials from other libraries not found in our collection is available upon request at the circulation desks
• Retrieving numerous library materials for library patrons who are unable to access the collections available upon request at the circulation desks
