Spring Council Depository Meeting The St. Louis Mercantile Library opened its doors 158 years ago on April 19, 1846, in downtown St. Louis. The Thomas Jefferson Library began it existence in 1969 as one of a handful of buildings comprising the young University of Missouri- St. Louis campus. The two diverse libraries began their partnership in 1997, when the Mercantile moved into its present location in the Thomas Jefferson Library building. The merging of the two general collections and the sharing of many special resources displays the libraries' commitment to preserving the region's heritage, as well as providing access into the future, for the local community and the research world at large.
