Gaertnera edentata Bog.Systematics is an area of biology that deals with the diversity of living things, their relationships to each other, and their classification. Historically botanists have relied on what plants look like - their morphology - to classify them and to make inferences about their evolutionary relationships. Today, using DNA sequencing technology, botanists have a new tool to complement morphological studies.

In the Kellogg Lab we are using sequencing techniques on chloroplast and nuclear DNA regions to investigate various evolutionary questions posed about different plant groups from around the globe.
