Score
All non-native speakers of English must submit an official TOEFL or IELTS score. The minimum TOEFL score for undergraduate admission is 61 iBT (500 paper-based, 173 computer-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.0.
English requirements for graduate applicants may vary by department, though it is recommended that students have a TOEFL score of at least 79 iBT.

Conditional Admission
Conditional admission is only available to students of ELS Language Centers. ELS is a private language company, and conditional applicants must first complete a separate application there.
After being admitted to ELS, students should then send all application materials (except a TOEFL score) to UMSL. Proof of ELS enrollment must be included as well.
If granted conditional admission to UMSL, students may enroll at the University—without a TOEFL score—after completing Level 112 English at ELS.
