Spring 2012 Orientation

All new international students are required to attend orientation.

When
Monday, January 9, 2012 - Thursday, January 12, 2012
Classes begin on Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Where
Millennium Student Center, 3rd Floor (Century C and SGA Chamber)

Who
All new international students -- undergraduate and graduate. (You will join a community of approximately 600 international students representing more than 100 different countries.)

What
We’ll go over important information that you’ll need to successfully integrate into campus life. You’ll have the opportunity to become familiar with campus and with the city before classes begin.

Registration & Check-in
On Monday, January 9, 2012 come to the Millennium Student Center at 9:00 am for new student check-in and orientation registration. We will be on the third floor in Century Room C. You will need to bring your passport, I-94 card and I-20 or DS-2019. If you have dependents (spouse, children) who entered the country with you, you will also need to bring their immigration documents (I-20/DS-2019, I-94, passport) with you. You will also be able to pick up your orientation packet during registration. If you cannot come for check-in and registration, please bring your documents on the first day of orientation.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement Evaluation     
There will be an ESL placement evaluation on Tuesday, January 10 at 9:00 am. Please see your admission letter and the English Proficiency handout in your admission packet for more information on who will need to sit for the assessment. Students who need to take the placement evaluation will receive a confirmation of this requirement during check-in and orientation registration on Monday. Students who arrive after this testing time will need to contact the ESL faculty to arrange a testing appointment.

Orientation Sessions  
There will be two days of orientation sessions: Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12. Both days sessions will start at 9:00 am and finish by 2:00 pm. A continental breakfast and a lunch meal will be provided both days. During orientation students will receive information on the following topics:

• Safety on Campus
• Health, Wellness and Health Insurance in the U.S.
• Adjusting to American Classroom Methods
• Maintaining F-1 and J-1 status
• Registration and Advising
• Using Campus Technology
• Student Accounts and Paying Fees
• Adjusting to Life in Another Culture

Arrival information

We offer airport pick-up service to newly arrived students. If you would like us to pick you up from the airport, be sure to request a pickup.
