Temporary Help

Due to the current hiring freeze, before hiring a temporary worker, the position must be approved to be "excepted" from the freeze unless it is fully funded by an external source. Please contact HR to obtain the proper forms.

If a department knows of someone it wishes to hire and does not post the position...

The department should have the applicant go to Prospective Employees and apply for one of the following positions:

  • Temporary Clerical (Job ID #1354, Job Code 9217)
  • Temporary Service (Job ID #1356, Job Code 9218)
  • Temporary Administrative/Professional (Job ID #1357, Job Code 9219)
  • Temporary Technical (Job ID #1358, Job Code 9220)
  • Temporary Crafts (Job ID #1359, Job Code 9221)

The department then has the applicant complete the FCRA Summary of Rights and Background Check Authorization/Disclosure form.* When the results are communicated to the department, the department should complete the following new hire paperwork and send this paperwork to HR:

NOTE: All temporary hires will be terminated automatically after five (5) months.  If an extension is necessary, authorization to extend an appointment beyond the five-month period must be requested by email and approved by HR recruitment staff (Sylvia Poe or Erik Smetana).  Under NO circumstances may a temporary appointment be extended beyond eight (8) months.  If an extension is granted, a rehire PAF must be processed by the hiring department.

NOTE:The department must contact Human Resources before a salary offer is made to ensure that the offer is within pay guidelines.

*NOTE: All temporary help must have a completed and current Criminal Background Check (CBC) before they can work at UM-St. Louis. They should complete a FCRA Summary of Rights and Background Check Authorization/Disclosure form. Based on the results of the CBC, an offer may be rescinded.
