Recruitment

Are you looking for a position within the University that will help you grow, provide you with a promotion, or give you an opportunity to try something different?   Check out our new job postings every Monday.

Some things to consider when you change jobs within the University:

Qualifying Period for Promotions and Transfers (HR 109)
Employees who have satisfactorily completed their six (6)-month probationary period and who are subsequently transferred to a new classification and/or department or promoted to a new classification or department must serve a qualifying period of one (1) month in the new position. Employees transferring from one shift to another in the same classification and department are not required to serve a qualifying period. Reclassifications are not subject to a qualifying period.

If at any time within this qualifying period it is determined by the University that the employee is not qualified for the position, or, if the employee does not wish to continue in the new position, the employee will be returned to the previously held position, if available, or a comparable one in the former department, if available.   If such a position is not available, the employee will be placed on a six (6)-month leave of absence from the former department to be considered for available openings in the department and on campus as they occur. If the employee does not find employment on the campus within the six-month period, the employee will be terminated.

Transfers Between Academic and Administrative Positions (HR 113)
Transfers between Academic and Administrative, Service & Support require a change in vacation, sick leave and personal days. In this transition, the service date is considered the original hire date the employee started working full-time at the University of Missouri . The Retirement Plan, Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Life Insurance, Long-Term Disability and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Plans will continue whether in an Academic or Administrative, Service & Support position.

  • From Academic to Administrative, Service and Support Positions
Academic staff members are not credited with vacation, sick leave and personal days. When an Academic staff member becomes Administrative, Service & Support, personal days will be prorated beginning with the month of the original date of hire. The employee will start accruing sick leave at the time of transfer at the rate of one (1) day per month, or 12 days per year. The employee will start accruing vacation as follows: for exempt positions the accrual rate will be 17 days per year if the staff member has been employed by the University for five (5) years or less; if employed over five (5) years, the staff member will accrue at the rate of 22 days per year. For nonexempt positions the accrual rate will be 12 days per year if employed for five (5) years or less, 17 days per year if employed over five (5) years, and 22 days if employed 15 years or more.
  • From Administrative, Service and Support Staff to Academic Positions
Academic staff members are not credited with vacation, sick leave and personal days; therefore the balance of the unused accrual for vacation or personal days is not carried over to the Academic position. Administrative, Service and Support staff members transferring to Academic positions who have unused vacation days will receive, at the supervisor's discretion, pay or vacation time before the status change is effected. Accumulated unused sick leave will be banked and credited in calculating retirement benefits.

If an Academic staff member later returns to an Administrative, Service & Support position, after having served in an academic position, the balance of his/her accumulated unused sick leave previously accrued when he/she was in an Administrative, Service & Support position, will be available for use at the time of the transfer. The vacation and personal days will start to accrue again at that time.

Any balance of unused accumulated vacation time is transferred with an employee transferring from one department or campus to another. Employees changing from regular to nonregular status will be paid accrued vacation in a lump sum at the time of change. Employees changing from exempt to nonexempt status, and who have accruals that exceed the maximum allowed in the nonexempt status, will receive, at the supervisor's discretion, pay or vacation days for the excess accrued amounts before this status change is effected. Accrued vacation will not be considered as time worked for purposes of calculating overtime. Vacation payout for monthly (exempt) employees will be computed using the hourly rate of pay.

Any balance of unused personal days is transferred with an employee transferring from one department or campus to another. All unused personal days are lost at the end of the anniversary year, even if the employee is on leave.

Any balance of unused sick leave is transferred with an employee transferring from one department or campus to another.
