Self-Appraisals

An important aspect of the Performance Appraisal Process is self-appraisal. This is your chance to shine the spotlight on yourself. Don't detract from that focus by comparing yourself to other employees, complaining about expectations or skewing your self-appraisal in hopes of receiving a bigger pay increase. When you do those things, you've already thrown up barriers which have to be surmounted before the conversation can really focus on you. Instead, be realistic yet positive.

The self-appraisal gives you an opportunity to:

  • Let your supervisor know how well you have been doing.
  • What contributions you have made.
  • What you are good at.
  • How you want to develop.

If you haven't been doing as well as you would like, it is also time to recognize that, and take advantage of this time to ask for help.
