SCHOOL-BASED INSERVICE PROGRAMS

GWP workshops are not one-shot performances. GWP works closely with districts to plan a cohesive series of session (15 to 45 hours) tailored to the needs of the attending teachers. Threads of writing process instruction are woven together with three beliefs:

  * The need for teachers to write themselves.
* The necessity of time, feedback, and ownership for young writers.
* The importance of culturally sensitive teaching.

Rooted in the powerful teachers teaching-teachers model, each workshop includes demonstration lessons that are classroom tested and research based. Programs can be offered for credit from the University of Missouri-St. Louis or from Harris Stowe State College.

Session related to the following topics can be incorporated into any school-based professional development plan:

  * Teaching Writing: process and product
* Writing to Learn in All Subject Areas
* Assessment
* Technology and Writing
