The 2013 Scholastic Writing Contest is now open and accepting submissions from all students, grades 7-12. I hope you will encourage your student writers to develop and polish one or more of their works as a contest entry. Students may register for the contest at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards website at http://www.artandwriting.org/. They should click on How to Submit for complete instructions on how to upload their entry online to the contest headquarters and on how to print and complete the registration form to mail along with the entry fee to the Missouri Writing Region at Missouri Western State University. You will also find instructions to follow for students who qualify for a fee waiver. The deadline for entries from Missouri Writing Region students is Friday, January 11, 2013. By the way, at the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards homepage, if you open Exhibitions, you will find Online Galleries of national award winning entries. Four Missouri students—Marlee Cox of Mehlville High School, St. Louis; Ben Shinogle of Park Hill High School, Kansas City; Logan Hollinger of St. Vincent Junior/Senior High School, Perryville; and Elena Bellamy of Maryville High School, Maryville—have their works published in the gallery. Excerpts from Logan Hollinger and Jessi Gluck of Blue Valley North High School in Overland Park, Kansas are featured in the 2012 National Catalog. Additionally, you are also able to download editions of The Best Teen Writing of 2012 which features a short story by Marlee Cox. For more information about the Missouri Writing Region, check out our website at http://www.missouriwestern.edu/mowriting/
At this website, you may download the 2012 edition of Missouri Youth Write, an anthology of last year’s state Gold Key, Silver Key, and Certificate of Merit entries.
