About DOT numbers in the OOH
The numbers in parentheses that appear just below the title of most
occupational statements are from the
Dictionary of Occupational
Titles (D.O.T.), Fourth Edition, Revised 1991, a U.S. Department of
D.O.T.
numbers are used primarily by State employment service offices to classify
applicants and job openings. They are included in the Handbook
because some career information centers and libraries use them for filing
occupational information.
The D.O.T. is being
replaced by O*NET, the Occupational Information Network.
