Kathy J. Weinman Advocacy Centre/Children's Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis
The Kathy J. Weinman Advocacy Centre coordinates services for victims in one child-friendly location, working with a multidisciplinary team that is typically comprised of representatives from child protection, law enforcement, prosecution, mental health and the juvenile or family court. This coordination expedites the investigation and prosecution of abuse cases while ensuring that victims receive effective, sensitive and immediate support in a setting that puts their needs first. The collaboration dramatically reduces the number of times children are questioned about their abuse.
The centre, located on UM-St. Louis’ South Campus, is fully accredited by the National Children’s Alliance, and it houses one of two locations for the Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis. Not only does the centre provide investigative, medical and therapy services, but the staff maintains an ongoing community outreach and education program for parents and professionals.
