Pierre Laclede Society donors honored
A reception was held Oct. 21 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis to thank the first group of donors to the university's Pierre Laclede Society. Plaques were unveiled listing the names of about 700 individuals who contributed to the PLS in 2006, the society's inaugural year.
Named in honor of a St. Louis founder Pierre Laclede, the society is the university's annual giving club. PLS gifts start at $1,000 and are a critical source of unrestricted funds. Many PLS members listed on the plaques attended the reception.
UMSL Chancellor Tom George told the group that their ranks were growing each year and members had contributed more than $500,000 to the fund since July 1.
Martin Leifeld, vice chancellor for university advancement at UMSL, said many PLS members also invested their time in this "valuable community asset" by becoming members of university leadership councils. Leifeld thanked UMSL faculty and staff, many of whom have contributed at the PLS level.

Inaugural members of the Pierre Laclede Society, a giving club at UMSL, were recognized Oct. 21. Linda Finkes, BA political science 1970 and PLS member, and UMSL Chancellor Tom George unveil PLS plaques at the Millennium Student Center.
