Anheuser-Busch Receives Lee Medal
Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. received the Des and Mary Ann Lee Medal for Philanthropy from the University of Missouri-St. Louis at its 17th annual Founders Dinner held Oct. 3 at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel. The dinner is held each year to recognize the university’s outstanding donors, faculty, staff and alumni.
“Anheuser-Busch is the best of all neighbors, sharing their good fortune with hundreds of organizations in the St. Louis community,” said Martin Leifeld, vice chancellor for university advancement. “A-B and its charitable foundation’s unparalleled support has benefited thousands of UMSL students and members of the greater St. Louis area.”
Building projects at UMSL funded by Anheuser-Busch include:
• The Anheuser-Busch Performance Hall at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center
• Anheuser-Busch Ecology and Conservation Greenhouse
• Computer Center Building
• An addition to the University Libraries that now houses the St. Louis Mercantile Library, the oldest general library in continuous existence west of the Mississippi
Anheuser-Busch funded programs and scholarships at UMSL include:
• The Leadership Academy for character education
• The Office of Multicultural Relation
• The Marian Oldham Scholarship Fund
• The Anheuser-Busch Excellence in Teaching Award
• The Red and Gold Golf Tournament scholarship fund
Tom Santel, president and CEO of Anheuser-Busch International, Inc. and vice president of Corporate Planning, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., accepted the medal for the company.
The medal is named for philanthropists E. Desmond and Mary Ann Lee who have contributed more than $20 million to fund the Des Lee Collaborative Vision and numerous other projects at UMSL. It includes 37 endowed professorships. Behind these professorships are a select group of professors and researchers who work together to create opportunities for underserved people and improve the quality of life throughout the St. Louis area.
