These seminars are designed to help you promote successful online course development and design. You will hear from UMSL faculty members on each topic as well as work in small groups to discuss ideas for your own course. These seminars are open to faculty, staff, and teaching assistants.

Planning and Designing the Online Learning Environment

This seminar will focus on the overall “course plan.” Topics will include getting to know your students, planning instructional events, identifying available technologies, knowing where to go to get assistance, integrating assessments into your course and overall rethinking course requirements.

Dr. Michael Wesch – Strategies for Student Success in a Changing World

This seminar will be brought to us via the Internet by UMKC.  Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Digital Ethnography at Kansas State U, explores the effects of social media and digital technology on society in his teaching and learning.  Wesch contends that a culture transformed by digital media will likely require fundamental changes in how we teach.  Come view his keynote via UMKC with us.

Interactivity, Group Formation and Facilitation

The second seminar will focus on four types of interaction critical to student learning that will lead to ideas for small group formation, project-based course requirements, teaching team-building, facilitation, and developing rubrics for self, peer, and instructor’s assessments.  Use of Blackboard’s group tools will be explored.
