Deleting the “A” Word: A Reflection on Assuring and Improving Learning
Current public policy embraces assessment with new urgency. This seminar/workshop draws lessons from assessment’s history of misunderstanding, reluctance and resistance to shift the focus onto student learning, and projects that focus into the future as a way to assure and improve student achievement…and to match the needs of reaccreditation. Presenter is Douglas Eder, Associate Provost, Institutional Effectiveness, University of North Florida.

A Dialogue about Intellectual Diversity
What is intellectual diversity? Is there enough diversity of ideas on campus? How does a campus promote respect for intellectual diversity? Can intellectual diversity be legislated? This campus-wide forum is designed to encourage discussion among students, staff, and faculty about an issue that is receiving attention across the nation. Classroom Civility: Preventing Disruptions, Focusing on Learning

Resolving classroom conflicts successfully can lead to respectful attitudes towards learning, professors, and peers. During this workshop effective alternatives are demonstrated to promote, assess, and maintain professional and civil behaviors in courses across the disciplines. Presenters: Peggy Cohen, Director, Center for Teaching and Learning; Bob Roeseler, Chief of Police; Lori Tagger, Counseling Psychologist, Health, Wellness, and Counseling.
