Recent award recipients and faculty who have served on the UM Research Board and the UMSL Senate Research Panels review the guidelines and highlight the criteria for successful research proposals with the goal of strengthening submissions to both internal panels. Participants will learn about supports for faculty work from the Development Office and Alumni Relations.
The Alumni Association invites those who pre-register to stay for a noon lunch.

The Offices of Academic and Student Affairs have been working together to support academic success and meet the Action Plan goal for student retention. This interactive program presents the results of this partnership by highlighting initiatives and innovations and providing a forum for faculty and staff to exchange effective practices. Join Kevin Kecskes, Director for Community-University Partnerships at Portland State University, to learn what faculty, staff, students, and administrators can do to meet the campus goal for civic engagement. Kecskes, author of Engaging Departments (Anker, 2006), offers highlights from PSU’s transformation to becoming a university “in and of” the community and delineates roles for campus and community partners. Faculty panelists who are pioneering service-learning courses in the St. Louis community describe their experiences. Continental breakfast.

In this “hands on” afternoon session, Kecskes shares strategies to help faculty integrate service-learning and civic engagement activities into course curricula. Bring ideas, hopes, concerns, and a syllabus to this afternoon workshop.
