Sure, using the Internet and videotapes supplement content in a traditional classroom, but in the distance setting, the use of technology is the way that the major content is delivered. It can be delivered over the Web, through a Web course tools program (such as WebCT or Blackboard), by videotape or satellite, or by CD-ROM/DVD.

Another difference is that distance students do not have to be place- or time-bound.
