2008 Professional Development Conference for Teaching Assistants/ Research Assistants

A campus-wide conference and orientation program is offered before the start of fall semester by the Graduate School and the Center for Teaching and Learning. Topics include fostering student interaction in the classroom, establishing authority, balancing life as a graduate student, responding to and grading students' work, analyzing and improving one's teaching, using MyGateway, motivating students to learn, and teaching with technology. Coordinator of the Teaching and Research Assistants' program is Sally Barr Ebest, Professor in English, 314-516-5544; email, sebest@umsl.edu. Be sure to register for classes at least 3 days before the workshop so that your MyGateway account will be created in advance!

Monday and Tuesday August 11–12 (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM)

This year's TA/RA Professional Development Conference, co-sponsored by the Graduate School and the Center for Teaching and Learning, will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 11-12, from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., in the MSC. The conference will offer five tracks:  Teaching with Technology, Classroom Management, Active Learning, Professional Development, and Research Assistants. In addition, the conference will include three, two-hour workshops which will give TAs and RAs a headstart on CUT – the graduate Certificate in University Teaching.
