With shimmering grace, colorfully adorned costumes, and visually stunning musical instruments, the Thai Classical Music and Dance Ensemble provides a truly authentic glimpse into Thai culture. From classical Thai music to chatri, the prototype for all Thai dance, the performance takes the audience through the history, folklore, and geography of the Troupe's homeland.

An emerging international talent, Lina Orfanos has a voice that seduces and thrills with lyrical beauty and technical agility. Both modest and crowd-pleasing, performing with the seasoned group of traditional and modern musicians of the Poetica Ensemble, she proves that musicality is driven by love and passion.

Charming Japanese folk tales are combined with traditional musical instruments, magical masks, origami and mime to create storytelling that will have audience members spellbound in their seats. A favorite performer at Disney's Epcot Center and The Kennedy Center, Kuniko Yamamoto's marvelous presentations promote cross-cultural communication and understanding in an entertaining way.

SATURDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2010 - 8:00 PM - LEE THEATER
Newfoundland traditional group Mahers Behars (pronounced marz-barz), led by the legendary Frank Maher on 4-stop accordion, has played at events and festivals from St. John's to Vancouver. Now they visit St. Louis to perform from their critically acclaimed repertoire of singles, jigs and reels with great speed, passion and humor.

WEDNESDAY 7 APRIL 20110 - 7:30 PM - LEE THEATER
Bassekou Kouyate is one of the true masters of the ngoni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa. The repertoire Bassekou plays is Bambara music from the region of Segu, music to participate in nature and as close to the blues as you can get in Africa. As Taj Mahal puts it "Basssekou is a genius, a living proof that the blues comes from Segu".
The Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni ba tour is presented in collaboration with World Music Insstitute and is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
