East Asian Studies Certificate Requirements
- First- and Second-year Chinese, Japanese, or other appropriate
Asian language (20 hours taken in four semesters). Basic Chinese and Japanese courses are offered on the University of Missouri-St.
Louis campus. Advanced Chinese and Japanese language courses are
available through Washington University for University of Missouri-St.
Louis students.
- History 1041 and History 1042, East Asian Civilization
- One course in three of the following six areas, a total of nine
hours:

3890, Studies in International Relations (when appropriate to East Asia) - Independent Study Course: Students seeking the certificate must complete an independent study course (three hours) in which a research paper will be written focusing upon some aspect of East Asian studies. The topic should be approved in advance by the Center for International Studies.
