Section 7: Compliance Services

While you are a student athlete at UM-St. Louis, you are obligated to abide by NCAA, GLVC and University rules. Failure to do so, deliberately or unintentionally, could result in the loss of your scholarship and/or eligibility. When in doubt about the rule you should contact Compliance Services. They can provide you with confidential counseling regarding your activities, those of a coach, staff member, or those of a fellow student, or representative of athletics interest (booster).

Extra Benefits

If you receive an award, gift, benefit or expense allowance not authorized by NCAA rules while a student athlete or receive such a benefit that is not generally available to the student body you may lose your eligibility, retroactive to the time you received the improper benefit. Your team will also have to forfeit any competition that you participated in since the time you received the benefit. Examples of such benefits include but are not limited to: gifts or loans of clothing, stereo equipment, compact discs, food, beverages, transportation, ownership or use of automobiles, use of automatic cash machine, low interest free loans, telephone credit cards, charge accounts, etc. If you have received any of these, or if any have been offered, please notify Compliance Services immediately.

Amateur Status

In order to compete in intercollegiate competition at UM-St. Louis, you must be an amateur in your sport. This means you cannot have signed or promised to sign a contract with an agent, semi-professional or professional team, or anyone else offering to help manage your professional career. It also means that if you have received prize money in your sport you may be ineligible. Please contact Compliance Services if any of these things have occurred.
