Kazanas served as a member of the baseball coaching staff for seven
years and worked in the sports information office for six years.
His playing career at UMSL began as a senior when he made the baseball
team in 1976. He led the team in hitting that season with a .385
batting average, and team highs of 11 doubles and 34 RBI. Kazanas
worked for six years in the sports information office, including
all four years as the student at UMSL, and served as the voice of
the Rivermen on KWMU. After graduation, Kazanas assisted with running
the athletic facilities as well as assisting with intramural sports.
He was the assistant baseball coach for seven years, from 1977-1983,
under head coach and fellow Hall of Famer Jim Dix. The Rivermen
went 160-125 during his tenure as assistant coach, including a 30-win
season in 1977, and the team made three consecutive trips to the
NCAA Regionals from 1977 through 1979. Kazanas has worked as a scout
for the Chicago White Sox and has served as the head coach of the
Greek Olympic baseball team. |
