| UMSL Uses Strong Hitting to Beat Wiscnosin-Parkside St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team started off their home season with dominating 3-0 win over visiting Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday night. UM-St. Louis won 30-24, 30-20, 30-26, and had a team hitting percentage .275 for the match with 50 kills and 14 errors. UMSL got off to a hot start, leading 7-1 in the first game. UWP got within two points, cutting the UMSL lead to 21-19, but UMSL scored seven of the next eight points and won 30-24. In the second game, the teams were tied 6-6 when UM-St. Louis went on a 12-4 run and led 18-9 while cruising to a 30-20 win in that game. In the third game, the Rangers took the early lead and failed to give up easily, leading 20-17 late in the game. UMSL then rallied, and got three straight kills from Erin Denton (Crystal City, Mo./Crystal City) that gave the team a 22-20 lead. UWP rallied to tie it up at 22-22 before UMSL rallied off seven straight points, capped off by a kill from Shamika Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville), and went on for the 30-26 win. Christy Trame (Highland, Ill./Highland) led UMSL with 16 kills and had just one error for a hitting percentage of .652 for the match. Erin Denton added 12 kills and three service aces, and Lisa Brinker has 39 assists. UMSL had nine team blocks, led by Trame with four block assists and Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) added three block assists. Joslyn Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) led the team with 14 digs. UM-St.
Louis is now 4-4 on the season and starts off the conference season
with a win in the GLVC opener.
