UMSL Falls to 16th-Ranked Rockhurst

St. Louis, Mo. –The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team hosted 16th-ranked Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon and fell 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-18) to the Hawks.

The first game was close early, with seven ties in the first half of the game. The last tie came at 16-16 when UMSL tied if after a kill from Chelsea Baumstark (Hermann, Mo./Hermann). UMSL then scored the next two points to take an 18-16 lead before Rockhurst scored nine straight points to take control of the game and win the opener 30-23. The next game saw the Hawks take a quick 4-1 lead before UMSL came back and got within a point at 10-11 after a service ace from Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces). Rockhurst then scored eight of the next ten points to win the second game 30-18 before taking the final game 30-18 as well for the win.

UMSL was led by Erin Denton (Crystal City, Mo./Crystal City) with 14 kills on the day. Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) had 31 assists and Joslyn Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had ten digs for UMSL.

UM-St. Louis falls to 8-15 on the season and is 5-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL will host Quincy University on Tuesday at 7 pm.
