UMSL to Face Rockhurst in First Round of GLVC Volleyball Tournament

St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team qualified for the GLVC Tournament, which will be hosted by SIU Edwardsville, November 2 – 4. UMSL qualified as the seventh seed in the tournament and will play against second-seeded Rockhurst on Thursday, November 2, at 2:30 pm, in the quarterfinal round.

UMSL finished the regular season with an 11-17 overall record and an even 8-8 mark in conference games. UM-St. Louis defeated Saint Joseph’s 3-1 on the final regular season game of the year this past weekend to secure the seventh seed, finishing just one game behind sixth-place Southern Indiana. UMSL faced Rockhurst earlier this year in a home match, falling 3-0 (30-23, 30-18, 30-18) against the Hawks.

This is the first time UMSL has qualified for the GLVC Tournament under current head coach Josh Lauer, who is in his third season, and made the tournament for just the second time in the past five years. UMSL last qualified for the GLVC Tournament in the 2003 season when they made it as the eighth seed and lost in the opening round match. Since joining the GLVC in the 1996 season, UM-St. Louis holds an all-time conference tournament record of 1-7, with the lone win coming in the quarterfinals of the 1996 tournament.

UMSL is led this year by sophomore Christy Trame (Highland, Ill./Highland) with a team high 343 kills and 97 total blocks on the season. Senior Erin Denton (Crystal City, Mo./Crystal City) has 288 kills on the year along with 268 digs, and junior Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) is third on the team with 249 kills, 295 digs and a team best 47 service aces. Sophomore Sarah Eisnaugle (Newark, Ill./Newark) has 201 kills to go along with 64 total blocks. Sophomore setter Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) has recorded 1,155 assists on the year and sophomore libero Joslyn Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) leads the team with 430 digs.
