Lisa Brinker Named Third Team Academic All-District

St. Louis, Mo. – University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball player Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) was named an ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Third Team selection for the 2006 volleyball season. She is one of just six players from the Great Lakes Valley Conference to earn Academic All-District honors this year, and is one of five student-athletes from all NCAA divisions in the state of Missouri to receive recognition.

Brinker, a sophomore majoring in pre-dentistry, is the team’s setter and helped lead UMSL to a seventh place finish in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and a bid to the conference tournament. Brinker played in all 29 matches and all 105 games on the season, leading the team with 1,198 assists. She finished sixth in the conference with 11.41 assists per game, and was third on the team with 284 digs. Brinker recorded 61 kills and had a .143 hitting percentage on the season and had 16 service aces.

Brinker is the first UMSL student-athlete to receive ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors this school year, and it marks the fourth straight academic year that an UMSL student-athlete has earned Academic All-District honors. She is the second UMSL volleyball player to ever receive this award, following Gillian Falknor in the 2003 season.
