UMSL Sweeps Past Wisconsin-Parkside Medina Leads UMSL with 16 Kills, 16 Digs St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team swept past Wisconsin-Parkside 3-0 on Friday night. Wisconsin-Parkside (3-20, 1-8 GLVC) got the first few points in each game, but UMSL (4-16, 4-5 GLVC) came back strong and won 30-25, 30-20, 30-25. UWP got the first three points on the opening game, but UMSL stayed close and trailing 9-8, the Riverwomen got five straight points to lead 13-9, and increased their lead to as many as eight points. UMSL cruised from there for a 30-25 win in the opening game. The Rangers again got an early start in the second game, leading 2-0 before UMSL came back again. With the game tied at 12-12, UMSL used a 5-0 run to take a 17-12 lead, getting three consecutive service aces from Christina Blickhan (Quincy, Ill./Quincy), and pushed their lead 23-14 before closing out the second game 30-20. In the last game, UWP again got the first two points before UMSL regained the lead at 5-3. With the game tied at 12-12, the Riverwomen went on a 9-2 run, getting three kills from Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) during that run and lead by as many as seven points at 21-14. The Rangers made a late charge by UMSL closed it out with a service ace from Medina for match point. UMSL was led by Claudia Medina with 16 kills, 16 digs and four blocks on the night. Sarah Eisnaugle (Newark, Ill./Newark) added 10 kills for UMSL and Chelsea Baumstark (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) had four blocks. Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) had 35 assists on the night for the Riverwomen. UMSL
is now 4-16 on the season and 4-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Riverwomen will be home again on Saturday when they host Lewis at
1 pm.
