UMSL Swept in Saturday Matches Riverwomen Lose to Ala-Huntsville, #13 Central Missouri State St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team hosted two matches on Saturday, both against teams that made the NCAA tournament last season. UMSL lost the morning game to Alabama-Huntsville 3-1, then fell in the afternoon match to 13th-ranked Central Missouri State. In the first game of the day, UMSL lost in four games to Alabama-Huntsville, falling 30-22, 30-24, 21-30, 30-18. UAH used an 8-1 run midway through the first game to take control and went on for the 30-22 from there. The Chargers jumped out to a quick lead in the second game, leading 7-1 early in the game. UMSL would try to come back late. The Riverwomen trailed 22-9 but went on a 15-6 run, but fell short and dropped the second game 30-24. UMSL got the first point of the third game and with it tied 12-12, UMSL went on a 5-1 run to lead 17-13. UAH cut the lead to two at 17-15 when UMSL went on a 4-0 run to take control and won the third game 30-21. UAH came back and controlled the fourth game and won 30-18 to close out the match 3-1. Sarah Eisnaugle (Newark, Ill./Newark) led UMSL with 11 kills and four blocks on the day, while Chelsea Baumstark (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) and Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) each had 10 kills. Joslyn Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had 19 digs and Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) had 37 assists. UMSL then faced 13th-ranked Central Missouri State in the afternoon game and fell 3-0 (30-22, 30-16, 30-17). The first game was even through the first half, as UMSL stayed close and tied the game at 12-12 before CMSU went on a 10-2 run to take control and win 30-22. CMSU used a 15-4 run in the second game to extend a four-point lead to a 27-11 lead and went on to win that game. The third game was close early, but CMSU scored seven straight points to take control and won 30-17. Heather Nichols led UMSL with 10 kills in the match and added eight digs. Lisa Brinker had a team-best 11 digs and 29 assists in the loss. UMSL is now 3-14 on the season. The Riverwomen will be on the road next weekend to play conference games at Rockhurst and at Drury.
