Lewis Beats UMSL in Four Games UMSL Wins First Game in 3-1 Loss St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team opened up strong against Lewis, but lost 3-1 to the visiting Flyers on Saturday afternoon. UMSL won the first game, using a late run to break open a close game. The score was tied eight times in the game, the last coming at 22-22 when UMSL got the next two points to lead 24-22. With the lead still at two points at 26-24, UMSL got three straight, including two kills from Sarah Eisnaugle (Newark, Ill./Newark) and eventually closed out the game 30-26. In the second game, UMSL stayed close early trailing by one point at 8-7, but Lewis scored five of the next six to lead 13-8. The Flyers extended that lead to as many as eight points at 21-13 and went on to win that game 30-19. Lewis got a quick start in the third game, leading 9-1 early, and held that lead the whole game to win 30-19. In the fourth game, the Flyers got a quick lead at 8-2 before UMSL closed the gap, trailing by just three points at 10-7 after a kill from Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces). Lewis would respond by scoring the next four points and went on to win 30-16 to take the match. UMSL was led by Sarah Eisnaugle and Claudia Medina with 10 kills each, and Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) led the Riverwomen with 33 assists and 18 digs in the match. UM-St.
Louis is now 4-17 on the season and falls to 4-6 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference. UMSL will be at home next week for a Tuesday night
match against Drury, beginning at 7 pm.
