UMSL Rallys Past Quincy for Win

Riverwomen Use Balanced Attack to Beat Hawks

Quincy, Ill. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team used a balanced hitting attack and rallied from a first game loss to beat Quincy 3-1 (25-30, 30-20, 30-21, 30-27) in a GLVC road match on Tuesday night.

UMSL dropped the first game of the match to the Hawks 30-25, but rallied strong in the second game to win 30-20. UMSL cruised again in the third game, winning 30-21 to take the advantage. Quincy got off to a quick start in the fourth game, leading 10-2, but UMSL came back strong and got their first lead of the game at 18-17 and scored the final three points of the game to win 30-27 and take the match.

UMSL was led by Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) with 12 kills and 25 digs in the match. Claudina Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) and Chelsea Baumstark (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) each had 10 kills and Sarah Eisnaugle (Newark, Ill./Newark) and Shamika Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) had eight kills each in the win. Joslyn Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had 20 digs and Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) led the team with 39 assists. UMSL had 12 service aces as a team, led by Medina with four and Cristina Blickhan (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) with three, and Eisnaugle led the team with five total blocks.

UMSL is now 2-12 on the season and 2-3 in the GLVC. The Riverwomen will be at home this weekend to host Kentucky Wesleyan in a conference match Friday night at 7 pm. UMSL will then host two matches on Saturday, facing Alabama-Huntsville at 10 am and then host Central Missouri State at 3 pm.
