UMSL Ends Regular Season Riverwomen Fall to SIU Edwardsville 3-0 St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team lost 3-0 (30-15, 30-16, 30-16) to visiting SIU Edwardsville on Saturday afternoon. The loss finished up the season for the Riverwomen, who end the year with an overall record of 9-17. SIUE jumped out to a quick lead in the first game, scoring 11 of the first 14 points in the game to take control. The Cougars then pushed their lead out to as many 15 points before taking the game 30-15. The second game saw a similar start as SIUE scored 10 of the first 14 points to take control early that game as well. UMSL got no closer than five points the rest of the way as the Cougars won 30-16. UMSL again had a slow start in the first game as SIUE scored nine of the first 11 points in that game. The Riverwomen did fight back and kept it close, scoring three straight points to make it a 10-5 game before the Cougars reeled off seven straight points to lead by 11 points at 17-6. The Cougars then cruised from there for the 30-13 win and a 3-0 win in the match. UMSL was led by Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) with ten kills and nine digs, and committed just one hitting error in 30 attempts. Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) had five kills and a team-high 11 digs on the day. On senior day, UMSL saw three seniors play their last match for the Riverwomen. Debi Dibella (St. Joseph, Mo./Benton Central) finished off her career by recording a kill in her final point on the court. Four-year starters Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) both wrapped up their careers as well. Richmond finished the day with four kills, seven digs and 17 assists. She ended her career with 2,597 career assists, 217 kills, 833 digs, 94 service aces and 75 total blocks. Sak finished the day with three kills and seven digs, and for her career recorded 177 kills, 36 assists and 26 service aces. Sak also ends her career as the all-time career leader in digs, having broken that record earlier this season, and finishes with 1,373 career digs. UMSL
ends the season with a 9-17 overall record on the season and finish
up the GLVC season with a 4-12 conference record.
