UMSL Opens Season 2-1 at Quincy Invitational UMSL's Heather Nichols Named to All-Tournament Team Quincy, Ill. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team finished its opening weekend with a 2-1 record at the Quincy-McDonald’s Invitational this weekend. After getting the first win of the season on Friday night, UMSL opened Saturday’s action with another 3-0 win with a win over Saginaw Valley State, winning 30-25, 30-27, 30-19. The lone loss of the weekend came in the final match against Armstrong Atlantic State, as UMSL fell 3-0 (30-19, 30-20, 30-14). UMSL’s Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts, as she had a total of 34 kills and 32 digs in the three matches. In the win over Saginaw Valley State, UMSL continued the hot hitting the team had from Friday night, finishing with a team hitting percentage of .312 for the match as the Riverwomen got better in each game. UMSL had seven hitting errors in the first game, five in the second and just four in the third game. Heather Nichols led UMSL with 14 kills in the match and Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) had 13 kills and added 14 digs. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 43 assists in the match and Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) had 11 digs. The UMSL hitting faded in the final match of the weekend, as UMSL committed 28 hitting errors compared to 31 kills. Heather Nichols led UMSL again with nine kills and 15 digs in the match and Ashley Richmond had 31 assists. UMSL
is 2-1 on the season and will be home this week with a match against
Harris Stowe on Wednesday at 7 pm.
