Quincy Runs Past UMSL Riverwomen Fall 3-1 to Hawks St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team fell victim to a couple of runs by Quincy in each game, and lost 3-1 (30-24, 30-20, 30-32, 30-25) in a GLVC matchup on Wednesday evening. Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) led UMSL with 13 kills and 12 digs, and Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) had 10 kills and 12 digs on the night. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 42 assists and 12 digs and Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) led the team with 19 digs. In the first game, UMSL held a slight lead at 12-0 when Quincy went on a 5-0 run to take control of the game at 15-13. UMSL could come back and tie the game at 15-15 and stayed close from there. With the score tied 24-24, the Hawks then rallied for the final six points of the game to win 30-24. The second game saw UMSL battle from behind the entire time, and cut the deficit to five points at 16-11 when the Hawks scored five straight to dampen any hopes of an UMSL comeback to win the second game 30-20. UMSL then started to click and dominated the first half of the third game, breaking a 3-3 tie with a 15-5 run to jump out to an 18-8 lead. The Hawks failed to cave in and came back with a 9-1 run to cut the UMSL lead to just two points. UMSL would hold a slight lead until the Quincy tied it up at 24-24. The Hawks then got a 29-27 lead, but UMSL scored the next three points to take a 30-29 lead and then held on for the 32-30 win in game three. The fourth game was closer early as the game was tied at 6-6 when Quincy made a big run, scoring 12 of the next 14 points to lead 18-8. UMSL was still down by ten points at 27-17 when the Riverwomen made a strong finish. UMSL scored five of the next six points to make it 28-22. After a point for Quincy, UMSL scored the next three points to make it 29-25 before the Hawks finished it off for the win. The
Riverwomen are now 7-13 on the season and fall to 3-8 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference. The Riverwomen will be at home again this weekend
when they host Bellarmine on Saturday at 1 pm.
