UMSL's Medina Named GLVC All-Conference Volleyball Freshman Earns Second Team Honors St. Louis, Mo. – University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball player Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) was named to the Great Lakes Valley All-Conference second team. Medina, a freshman at UMSL, is the first UMSL volleyball player to receive all-conference honors since the 2002 season. This year, Medina led UMSL with 277 kills on the season, averaging 3.15 per game, and she was third on the team with 255 digs, averaging 2.90 per game. She played in all 26 matches on the season and recorded double digits in kills in 15 matches and double digits in digs in 12 matches. Medina led both the team and the conference in service aces, averaging 0.53 per game, totaling 47 service aces on the year and had a season best five aces in a match against Aquinas. Medina was second on the team with 48 total blocks on the year. Her season bests were 17 kills in a match at Wisconsin-Parkside, 23 digs in a match at Quincy and six total blocks in a match against Southern Indiana. Since joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the 1996 season, Medina is the fifth UMSL volleyball player to receive all-conference recognition.
