St. Joseph's Gets by UMSL Volleyball

Riverwomen Drop Opening Conference Match

Rensselaer, Ind. – In the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams, the Saint Joseph’s Pumas outlasted the Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team 3-0 (30-26, 33-31, 30-19) on Friday evening.

The Pumas took the opening game in a close contest, winning 30-26. UMSL fought back and extended the second game before falling 33-31 and then dropped the final game of the match 30-19. Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) led the Riverwomen with 13 kills on the night and added 14 digs as well. Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) led UMSL on the defensive side with 17 digs and Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) had 11 digs. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 20 assists for UMSL in the loss.

The Riverwomen are now 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in the GLVC. UMSL will continue their road trip this weekend and play at Indianapolis on Saturday at 1 pm.
