UMSL Falls 3-0 at SIUE

Riverwomen Fall to 7-11 on the Season

Edwardsville, Ill. – The UMSL volleyball team ran into a tough SIUE team on Friday night, falling in three straight games, 30-17, 30-23, 30-14. Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) each had five kills to lead UMSL in hitting and Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 19 assists on the night.

In the first game, SIUE got the first four points of the game and jumped out to a quick six-point lead at 11-5. The Riverwomen would close the game to four points at 20-16, but the Cougars responded by closing out the game with a 10-1 run. The second game saw UMSL keep it close in the early going and took a one-point lead at 14-13 after two consecutive service aces from Claudia Medina. SIUE then used a 6-0 run to take control of the game and held off a late UMSL rally to win 30-23. UMSL again stayed close early in the third game before SIUE broke a 9-9 tie with a 12-1 run and won the final game 30-14 for the win.

UMSL falls to 7-11 on the season and 3-6 in the GLVC. The Riverwomen will be on the road again on Saturday when they play at Southern Indiana.
