UMSL Falls in Three to Quincy

Sak Moves Closer to Career Digs Record

Quincy, Ill. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team dropped a three-set match at Quincy on Wednesday night, losing 3-0 (30-17, 30-27, 30-25) on Wednesday night in the Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup. Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) had 13 kills and 23 digs for the Riverwomen and Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) added 10 kills and 13 digs in the loss.

The Hawks soared out to a quick lead with a 30-17 win in the first game, capitalizing on nine hitting errors by UMSL. The Riverwomen fought back and nearly pulled off a win in the second game before falling 30-27 and Quincy then took the third game 30-25 for the win. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 36 assists and six digs. Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) added 12 digs, moving within 24 digs of matching the UMSL school record for most career digs. Sak now has 1,211 digs on her career and is closing in on the record of 1,235 set by Carla Addoh.

With the loss, UMSL falls to 5-8 on the season and 1-3 in the GLVC. The Riverwomen will be at home this weekend for their first home conference action. UMSL will host Indianapolis on Friday night at 7 pm and then host Saint Joseph’s on Saturday at 1 pm.
