UMSL Starts Slow, Falls to Lewis Riverwomen Lose 3-0 to Flyers Romeoville, Ill. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team got off to a slow start in a match at Lewis on Saturday afternoon, and it proved too much to overcome as UMSL fell 3-0 (30-12, 30-21, 30-25) against the Flyers. UMSL had a slow start in the first game of the match, falling 30-12. The Flyers recorded 19 kills in that first game to take control early. In the second game, the Riverwomen made 11 hitting errors as Lewis claimed a 30-21 win in the second game. UMSL got on a track a little better in the third game, recording 16 team kills, but still committed nine errors in falling 30-25 to lose the match 3-0. Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) and Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) had 10 kills each to lead UMSL, as Nichols added a team-best 14 digs and Medina added 10 digs. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 24 assists for UMSL and recorded four blocks and five kills. The Riverwomen fall to 9-15 on the season and are now 4-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL will finish up the season this coming weekend with two home matches, hosting Southern Indiana on Friday at 7 pm, and then hosting SIU Edwardsville on Saturday at 1 pm.
