UMSL Gets First Conference Win of the Season

Riverwomen Sweep Bellarmine in Three Straight

Louisville, Ky. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team notched their first conference win of the season, taking a 3-0 match at Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon. The Riverwomen won by scores of 30-24, 31-29, 30-27 over the Knights as three UMSL players recorded double-digits in kills for the game.

UMSL cruised in the first game, committing just three hitting errors as a team to win 30-24. The second game saw the Riverwomen pull out a 31-29 game before closing out the match with a 30-27 win in game three. Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) led UMSL with team highs of 12 kills and 17 digs in the match. Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Claudia Medina (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) each had 10 kills and two service aces in the match and Sak added 12 digs and Medina added seven digs and two blocks. Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 31 assists for the Riverwomen as well.

UMSL improves to 5-7 on the season and picks up their first win in the GLVC this year and stand at 1-2 in the conference. The Riverwomen will play at Quincy on Wednesday night, and then return home this weekend to host Indianapolis on Friday night at 7 pm, and then host Saint Joseph’s on Saturday at 1 pm.
