UMSL Wins Big Match Over Pumas

Volleyball Defeats Saint Joseph's 3-1

St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team won a big match over Saint Joseph’s College 3-1 on Friday evening. The win gave the Riverwomen a big edge in trying to secure a spot in the GLVC Tournament with just three more conference games remaining in the regular season.

UMSL won a close first game after seeing a big lead diminish towards the end. The Riverwomen led the game 29-24, only to see the Pumas fight back and tie the game at 29-29. UMSL would then score the next two points for the 31-29 win in the opening game. The second game saw a bit of a let up by UMSL, as Saint Joseph’s came back strong and won game two 30-19. Missouri-Saint Louis rebounded well, winning game three by a convincing 30-18 score and then held on for the win in game four 30-22, scoring the last three points to win the match.

UMSL was led by Gillian Falknor (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) with 14 kills and Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNichols) added 10 kills and four blocks. Daria Sak (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) had a match-high 31 digs and Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 22 assists in the win.

The Riverwomen are now 7-10 on the season and 4-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. UMSL will close out its home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a conference match against Indianapolis beginning at 1 pm.
