UMSL Edged Out by SIUE Riverwomen Lose to Cougars in Three Close Games St. Louis, Mo. – The UMSL volleyball team saw a tough battle come up short, falling 3-0 to visiting SIUE on Wednesday night. The Riverwomen lost all three games by identical scores, falling two points short in each game to lose 30-28, 30-28, 30-28. UMSL fell behind to start each game, then had to rally to fight back. The opening match saw the Riverwomen close it to one point late, but SIUE closed it out. The second game saw the Riverwomen lead midway through the game before the Cougars took control and held off a late game rally by UMSL. SIUE then looked to close things out in the third game, leading by eight points, before UMSL made yet another late charge. The Riverwomen closed the gap to just one point at 29-28 before SIUE got the final point for the 30-28 win. Gillian Falknor (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Groves) led UMSL with 15 kills and Nikki Pagels (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary Grove) had 11 kills while Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 22 assists on the night. Kindra Westendord led SIUE with 14 kills and Krystal Majernik had 34 assists. UMSL falls to 4-6 on the season and 1-2 in the GLVC. The Riverwomen will play at Quincy on Saturday before returning home for a non-conference matchup with Drury on Tuesday, September 30.
