Greyhounds Nip UMSL by a Nose Riverwomen Fall 3-2 to Indianapolis St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team was edged out by Indianapolis in a close 3-2 match on Saturday afternoon. The Riverwomen won the first two games of the match before dropping the next three, losing 28-30, 22-30, 30-27, 30-25, 15-11. UMSL played on fire the first two games. With the first game tied at 21-21, the Riverwomen jumped out to a 25-23 lead and went on to win 30-28. The second game saw UMSL grab a 9-3 lead early, and led by as many as 11 points at 24-13 as Indianapolis could get no closer than five points during that game. The third game came down to the wire, as it was tied at eight times from the 16 point mark on before the Greyhounds sprinted ahead at the end, winning 30-27. The fourth game was close as well, as it was tied eight times in the early going before Indianapolis against took a slight edge and led 27-22 before closing out the game and forcing game five. In the fifth game, Indianapolis got out of the gates quickly, leading 4-0 as UMSL could not catch up after that, losing 15-11 for the 3-2 loss. Gillian Falknor (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had an all-around game for UMSL, with 21 kills and 27 digs in the match. Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial), one of three seniors playing their last home game for the Riverwomen, added 17 kills and 16 digs. The other two seniors played big roles as well, as Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNichols) had 13 kills, 11 digs and two blocks, and Stacey Pearl (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) had a team-high 31 assists and 14 digs. The
Riverwomen are now 7-11 on the season and 4-6 in the GLVC. UMSL will
be on the road for their final four regular season games this season,
beginning with road games at Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana
next weekend.
