UMSL Drops First Match of Weekend to Emporia State

Riverwomen Fall in Five-Game Match

Emporia, Kan. – In their first match at the Emporia State Tournament, the Riverwomen dropped a five-game match to host Emporia State, losing 30-21, 30-15, 26-30, 19-30, 15-6.

UMSL fell behind early in the match, losing the first two games, including a 30-15 loss in the second game. The Riverwomen bounced back quickly, taking the third game 30-26 and then dominating the fourth game 30-19. committing just two hitting errors in the entire fourth game. Emporia State battled back to take the fifth and deciding game 15-6.

Melissa Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNichols) led UMSL with 14 kills and five total blocks on the night. Kathryn Freeman (Goodyear, Ariz./Centennial) added five blocks and Ashley Richmond (Milford, Ohio/Milford) had 29 assists.

The Riverwomen are now 3-2 on the season and will continue play at the Emporia State Tournament on Saturday, September 13, against Emporia State at 1 pm and against Southwest Baptist at 5 pm.
